Esteban Pastorino
Esteban Pastorino (Buenos Aires, 1972) is a multidisciplinary artist known for his aerial photography. He studied mechanical engineering, advertising photography, and participated in workshops with Juan Travnik and Fabiana Barreda. Pastorino completed residencies at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten (Amsterdam) and Casa de Velázquez (Madrid).
One of his most notable works is a series of aerial photographs. He designed a 10 x 13 cm cardboard camera mounted on kites, airplanes, or elevated locations, capturing images with a remote control. The camera’s intentional blur effect simulates a shallow depth of field and, combined with bird’s-eye views of landscapes, evokes dioramas or scale models. This effect creates curiosity, with sharp details challenging the viewer to distinguish between miniature models and real spaces.
Pastorino has held solo exhibitions at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires (2003), the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín (2008), and the Fotografijos Muziejus (Lithuania, 2015). He has received multiple accolades, including the Photographer Award (2001) and Konex Foundation Awards (2012, 2022). Pastorino lives and works in La Plata, Buenos Aires Province.
