Booth walkthrough with artist Gimena Macri
In Spanish, without translation.
Gimena Macri (1986, Argentina) is known for her work's deep materiality and gestural character, as well as its intimate, confessional nature, which gives the viewer the sense of reading a personal diary that doesn’t belong to them but in which they can see themselves reflected. Merging the mental with the sentimental, oil painting is the medium that allows her to move freely between urban landscapes, interiors, and texts. She connects objects with situations, achieving infinite textual possibilities of interpretation through her paintings. The slowed-down time proposed by the material allows her to slowly reconstruct and shape the sensations that arise as an inevitable need to express figures and narratives in a confessional, autobiographical, and sentimental story where motifs expand. Her work is an art that doesn’t require explanations; it stands on its own and connects with people through a visual narrative thread. Gimena selects elements of everyday life to construct her poetics and connect with the most vital aspects of existence. Her exhibitions have been held in notable spaces, including Galería Ruth Benzacar (Buenos Aires) and Centro Cultural Kirchner (Buenos Aires), among others.
