ESTE ARTE 2025 | Lorenzo Moya

Lorenzo Moya

BIO

Lorenzo Moya (1967, Santiago de Chile) is a Chilean painter trained at the Universidad de Chile. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards, including the "Amigos del Arte" scholarship, first place in the "Mural Competition" by the Chilean Security Association, an honorable mention at the Buenos Aires Biennial, first place in the Enersis "Energy and Light" competition, first place in the "Nestlé Competition," and the "Alcatel Amigos del Arte" award in Santiago, Chile. He was also selected to participate in the "If the Earth Could Speak" competition, which allowed him to exhibit at the Art Museum of the Americas in Washington, D.C., USA.

Moya’s work often transitions from human figures to landscapes, embracing a figurative and naïve style that creates a blend of mysterious poetry within each image. His deep connection to nature has become a defining feature of his work. Rather than simply painting landscapes, Moya immerses himself in nature, inviting viewers to join him on a journey that goes beyond physical reality. His works, with their lush colors, textures, and pure forms, offer an experience that transcends the material, capturing nature’s vitality in its most unrefined state.

CURATORIAL

As contemporary voices call attention to the climate crisis, nature reclaims a central role in art. True to form, artists are at the forefront, embracing an activist responsibility to reveal the urgency of this crisis. In this body of work, nature itself becomes the subject, its landscapes self-contained and self-sufficient. Here, the artist transports us through vast, minimally touched terrains, sharing the exuberance of biodiversity he has encountered firsthand. His large-scale works immerse viewers in environments that pulse with life, presenting nature not merely as a backdrop but as a sensory experience.

Using close framing and limited spatial depth, the artist captures a visceral, tactile sense of place. We are invited to breathe in omnipresent mist, feel the crunch of leaves underfoot, glimpse light filtering through branches, touch the glimmer of water, and bask in the brilliance of snow. Through this work, he distills a contemplative, silent dialogue—a reverential homage to the overwhelming green immensity that surrounds us, calling viewers to engage deeply with the natural world.
